Welsh Language Hub grew from a simple frustration: there are plenty of good resources for learning Welsh, but it can be surprisingly difficult to know where to start, what to learn next, and how to turn that knowledge into Welsh you can actually use.
We wanted to build something different — a clear, practical route into everyday Welsh, built around real conversations and useful language from the start.
Welsh Language Hub was founded by Dylan, a language teacher and lifelong language learner.
Dylan has spent nearly 20 years teaching around the world, including in the UK, China, Korea, Poland and the United States. He has a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics, has taught for institutions including UCLA, Cardiff University and UCL, and spent several years working with the BBC.
But the idea for Welsh Language Hub came from his own experience of learning languages.
While living in China and Korea, Dylan studied Chinese and Korean using short, structured audio lessons — often while walking, travelling to work or cooking. A little regular study made it surprisingly easy to keep progressing.
After almost two decades abroad, he returned home to Wales determined to finally learn Welsh properly.
Like many people in Wales, he had learned some Welsh at school. He remembered words and phrases and could pronounce the language, but actually putting sentences together and speaking was much harder.
There were plenty of excellent Welsh-learning resources available, but Dylan found it difficult to see a clear route through them: where to begin, what to learn next and how everything fitted together.
So he decided to create the course he wanted to use himself.
Dylan teamed up with his childhood friend Hywel, a native Welsh speaker who has spent more than 16 years working for S4C and Welsh medium television, including 11 years working on Pobol y Cwm.
Together, they built the course around a simple question:
What Welsh would actually be useful to someone who wants to start speaking?

Instead of beginning with long grammar explanations or unrelated vocabulary lists, Quick Cymraeg starts with situations where Welsh can actually be used.

Arranging to meet
And gradually, those small interactions build into real conversations.
Our lessons are built around short, everyday conversations so learners encounter useful Welsh in context from the beginning.
We explain how Welsh works when it helps, but without turning every lesson into a grammar lecture.
You shouldn't need to study for months before using the language. The goal is to give you Welsh you can use straight away.
Useful words, phrases and patterns return throughout the course so that gradually they become part of the Welsh you can actually produce.
For us, learning Welsh is about more than learning another language.
Welsh is closely connected to the history, culture and everyday life of Wales, and we want Welsh Language Hub to help more people feel part of that.
