Welsh mutations without panic

Mutations sound intimidating and look like a table of rules. In practice, learners pick most of them up by hearing them, not by studying them.

What happens

Certain words cause the first letter of the next word to soften: coffi becomes goffi after Ga i. Cardiff becomes Gaerdydd after i (to).

How to learn them

Learn whole phrases rather than isolated words. Ga i goffi is one chunk. Do that often enough and the mutation comes free.
